⦁     What's been the most epic moment of your streaming journey so far? We want to hear all the juicy details!

Picking one is tough, there has been so many epic moments! I'd probably have to go with finding out I got a Sponsorship from the great AMD. I was pinching myself all day when I found out, just in case I was dreaming.

⦁    Have you ever had a hilarious blooper or mishap while streaming that you can't help but laugh about now?

I was doing a charity stream once, writing donator's names on balloons. I pressed a bit hard with the pen and the balloon popped loudly in my face (and mic, sorry chat) and the pen that i'd written on the balloon transferred over my arms and chin.. Couldn't do that again if I tried.

⦁    Who's your all-time favorite gaming character, and why do they hold a special place in your heart?

Ana from Overwatch. I've spent thousands upon thousands of hours hearing her voice, she was the first hero I ever became half decent at in Overwatch, or in anything for that matter. I never get bored of playing Ana.

⦁    If you could collaborate with any other streamer, who would it be and what game would you play together?

I love DexBonus (Dooger) - she plays mostly chill/story games and does coffee mornings. I'd love to play Overwatch with her (even though OW isnt quite as chilled)

⦁    We all have those games that we love to hate! What's a game that frustrates you to no end but you just can't stop playing?

Ark Survival is a very very dangerous game for me to be around. I will disappear from everyone's lives and spend 16 hours a day on Ark with ease. It can be gut-wrenching to lose a tame, or something you've worked hours on building in Ark.

⦁    What's your go-to snack or beverage while streaming? Bonus points for any weird combos!

Honestly I just drink copious amounts of tea all stream, off-stream, always. Not much of a snacker, I just like a filling meal before stream then tea throughout.

⦁    If you could magically teleport into any game world and live there for a day, which game would you choose and why?

Probably Morrowind, I played that game sooo much growing up. I'd definitely need some hiking boots for Vvardenfell.

⦁    What gaming gear or peripherals do you most recommend? Why?

I highly recommend the Superlight 2 mouse, or the Lamzu Atlantis mouse. Both very light at 60g and 55g and super reliable. I alternate between them.

⦁    Any advice for fellow female streamers who are navigating their way through the gaming world?

I'd probably say protect your space. It can be difficult when you're a small streamer and you don't want to upset anybody, but don't allow anyone to take advantage or make mean comments about you. Protect your space and cultivate a chat everyone can enjoy together.

⦁    Lastly, if you could sum up your streaming journey in one meme or GIF, what would it be?

Definitely this one, I'm very lucky to have my community. Without them I wouldn't get to do what I love everyday.

My initial impressions were very high, the unboxing screamed premium and the pad arrived perfectly flat thanks to the way they have packed it (Honestly the sleeve is beautiful).  Superbeings Lab uses a flatpack sleeve for shipping rather than a tube/box. This is a huge upside as it ensures your pad arrives perfectly flat and ready to use as soon as you get it rather than needing a few books and leaving your new pad overnight to flatten out.

I went for the snazzy “Erabelle's Blue” colour to match my setup but it also comes in a more standard black.

The pad is 3.5 mm thick, which is slightly thicker than the usual 3mm I’ve come to expect. I see this as an upside as it adds a little more cushion to the pad.

The last design choice is the very tasteful logo in the bottom right of the pad, I have had zero issues with the logo affecting tracking or the feel of the pad at all.

The base

The Poron foam base is one of the best bases you can ask for on a pad, in particular, the one included on the Superbeings Labs Memoria Pro Mousepad is of very high quality. In my opinion, it is right up there alongside the Artisan Hien’s base.

It almost adheres to my desk, there is no way the pad will slip under use, and the only way I have been able to get it to move is by picking it up fully. If the base ever loses its grip, all you have to do is rinse the bottom off in some room temperature water, pat dry it, place it back on your desk and continue gaming.

Stitched Edges

The stitching is very impressive, and after a month of use it has held up perfectly, it is extremely neat/uniform and just below the surface so will not irritate your wrists at all, it still looks as good as the day I got it!

Surface Texture

The texture of the pad is one point where it could make or break your first impressions, it is a textured pad and many people may not like it initially if they are used to smoother pads.

With that being said, I do prefer textured pads and this is a great example of what a textured pad should be, it is extremely consistent. Another feature of this pad is that it is on the softer side, not quite xsoft but in my view a perfect balance of being firm whilst gliding without feeling mushy, but you’re easily able to push down onto it if you need a little extra resistance.

If you have not used a textured pad before but are open to trying one you can not go wrong with this pad, it is an amazing example not lacking in any other areas.

Conclusion

I have played tactical shooting games such as CS2 and Valorant alongside a large variety of dynamic shooters and have been extremely impressed with the general feel of the pad, for anyone who has been requesting Artisan’s and high-quality control pads, you can not go wrong if you pick the Superbeings Lab’s Memoria Pro Mousepad.

Is your Mousepad starting to look a bit dirty and grimy? 😷 We gotchu.

Here's a quick and very simple guide on how to clean a mousepad (cloth mousepad) safely to keep it performing well and not ruin that sweet, sweet cloth surface.

Important: This guide is for cloth mousepads only, please do NOT use this method for mousepads with glass or specially coated surfaces 💀

We've broken the cleaning guide down into 5 simple steps:

• Step 1: Whip the mousepad away from your mouse like a magician's tablecloth (may as well making a boring task fun, amirite?)

• Step 2: Use a dry or slightly damp cloth to *gently* wipe the mousepad's surface. Don't use too much water as this can damage the pad

• Step 3: If the mousepad is particularly dirty, sweaty or sticky, you can use a *mild* cleaning solution such as soap and water to gently scrub the surface. Make sure to rinse the pad thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before using it again

• Step 4: For tougher stains, you may need to use a specialised cleaning solution or a paste made of baking soda and water. Rub the paste onto the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it off with a damp cloth

• Step 5: If the mousepad has a rubber or silicone backing (most pads do these days), you can use a rubber cleaner or silicone lubricant to restore its grip and prevent it from sliding around on your desk

No matter which method you're using to clean your mousepad, make sure to allow it to dry completely before using it again to avoid damaging the surface, backing or fibres.

To wrap up, it's important to make sure to allow it to dry completely before using it again and avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials when cleaning it, as these can damage the surface or cause it to wear out much more quickly.

As Esports is growing at an astronomical rate, you’ll be surprised at how many local gamer communities are popping up - so keep an eye out for local events. It’ll keep the costs down and also help grow the local gaming scene. Steam, Facebook and Reddit groups are the best way to hear about local events.

If you’re a go big or go home type of person, want to see the pros in action and all the latest games & hardware, then looking at large national events such as Insomnia is the way to go.

A weekend Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) ticket is what you’re after, and start at around £104 (prices may vary). This gives you access to the event expo hall, community games area and the Esports stage and bar for the whole event. 

In the BYOC arena, you’ll get your own deskspace & chair (you can bring your own chair if you want), so you can take your own PC and kit with you and hook up to their ultra-fast network and start gaming with your mates (plus the hundreds of other BYOC goers). Travelling light? Rent a PC for the weekend if you can’t bring your gaming rig with you, these start from around £110.

This is an awesome way to meet new people and game for the entire weekend without getting moaned at by your parents/other half/boss. What’s more, you can stay close to the action by staying at the onsite camping grounds (available from around £36). Sounds amazing, right?

As well as being able to chill out all weekend and play whatever game you want, there are always tournaments happening at LANs if you want to get competitive. Sign up with your friends or form a new team with new friends using the official Insomnia Discord server. 

Looking for something a bit more laid-back? Then have no worries, as BYOC casual tournaments will run throughout the weekend, with games to be announced closer to the event. No pressure, all fun :)

So whether you’re going local or going large, do your research and make sure that you book up early to avoid disappointment. If you’re going with friends or with your team, it’s important to book at the same time so that you can all sit together. For the larger events such as Insomnia, Early Bird tickets should be available and will save you some cash. 

How to pack your PC for travelling

Making sure your PC arrives at the LAN in one piece is paramount to determining your happiness, so don’t slack on the packaging or pre road trip checks!

• Check all screws - Thoroughly checking all the screws are tight to prevent any movement that could cause cracks or chips.
• Pack the inside - To add extra support to your components (mostly the CPU cooler & GPU), it's worth packing the inside of your case with anti-static bubble wrap or foam. Plenty of packing paper will also do.
• Use the original box - Flat packing your original PC box and keeping it somewhere safe is really smart, as finding a pre-made box that fits snug will be a tough ask. If you didn’t think this far ahead, then use a box as close to the case size as possible, heavily packing the gaps with foam or bubble wrap to avoid movement and shock damage. Use towels if you have to.
• Reinforcement - Tape that box up. Make sure there are no weak seams that will give way under the weight of your PC.
• Lay the box flat - Let gravity help and have your PC flat with your motherboard being closest to the ground. This will keep all the components in a more natural position, making gravity your friend.

Keep your gear safe at LAN

When it comes to overall safety at the event, the staff have you covered. The event centre has extensive safety measures put in place to ensure everyone at the event is safe for the duration of their stay including;

• State of the art CCTV monitoring and communications centre
• Walk Through Metal Detector security arches
• Search and screening technology
• Bag searches at venue entrances
• A Response and Conflict Management team
• Behavioural Detection team
• Dedicated Security Dog team
• An onsite West Midlands Police team
• Vehicle checkpoints
• Hostile Vehicle Mitigation protection

To ensure your gear is safe, upon entry each item (PC, Keyboard, Monitor etc) you bring if often stickered with unique identification that matches your credentials. So anyone leaving the venue with any hardware will be subjected to security checks to ensure they match, ensuring you're as safe as can be.

Nonetheless it’s never a bad idea to take extra precautions when it comes to your valuables including the following;

• Disconnect all your gear and stick them in your backpack before you leave for any length of time. 
• Same goes for your wallet, phone and any other valued items. If you'd prefer not to carry all your gear around with you, invest in a secure bag that can be locked and chained up.
• The event centre may have on site storage facilities at additional cost. A great way to ensure your valuables are safe, when indulging in some R&R.
• Keeping your fellow gamer safe; Report anything that doesn’t feel or look right to you. For example any unattended items or someone acting suspiciously. 

The essentials checklist for LAN - what to take with you

Forgetting these items can seriously affect your happiness and ability to game, so be sure to pack all the accompanying accessories and cables.

For Gaming:

• PC/Laptop
• Monitor
• Mouse
• Mouse pad
• Keyboard
• Console Controllers
• Headset/Headphones
• Carry bag/case
• Power extension strip

For Sleeping:

If you’ve spent all your money on tickets and traveling expenses, there’s a good chance you’ll be ditching a hotel and sleeping at the LAN, so these will help make the situation slightly more pleasant. And don’t worry, we’ve all done it.

• Sleeping Bag
• Pillow/Cushion (a travel cushion is ideal)
• Ear Plugs

For your (and your team mates) wellbeing:

Don't be that smelly person that everyone at the event avoids. These essentials will be similar to what you’d take to a music festival.

• Change of clothes
• Towel 
• Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant)
• Wet wipes
• Breath Mints

And finally, don’t your forget ticket, your ID (for beer) and cash (for said beer, food and any cool stuff you want to pick up over the weekend).

Three is the magic number.

When it comes to human ergonomics – in this case, when the hand meets the computer mouse – research shows that although each person is unique, we can still reliably split the population into three groups of mouse ‘grip’ style (type) – palm grip, fingertip grip, and claw grip.

It’s a bit of an oversimplification to simply split it into three categories, but it’s a good starting point.

Simply put: grip style (type) is how you hold the mouse in your hand – the position of your palm and fingers. It doesn’t have to get more complicated than that.

There are many variables, such as the mouse’s shape, weight, your hand size, hand flexibility and much more, but we’re going to keep this short and sweet, covering each grip’s use-cases and some of the pros and cons that may help you pick the mouse and grip that suits you.

Let’s get into it.

Palm Grip

Palm grip is the most common and most natural; even the majority of non-gamer muggles will likely be holding their mice this way. It’s a great relaxed grip that puts minimal strain on your arms and wrists, so it's efficient for long sessions and gliding/flicking motions across your mousepad. In general, larger mice or mice with higher profiles work best with this grip.

Pros:

• Natural, relaxed grip (less strain)
• More control for both large gliding movements and micro-adjustments

Cons:

• Less precise
• Vertical movement can be restrictive

Fingertip Grip 

Fingertip grip is sometimes hailed as the most accurate grip style, as it allows for maximum vertical agility, making it a solid choice for fast-paced FPS games due to its ability for easy micro-adjustments. Now for the bad news: it may be the most accurate, but it's also the most difficult style to master.

Pros:

• Fast reaction times
• Precise

Cons:

• Not great for longer swipe/glide movement
• Difficult to ‘master’
  
  

Claw Grip

Claw grip can be the best of both worlds. However, it comes with its risks - it can cause more strain on your finger during long sessions. The claw grip can vary between how big the mouse is (relative to your hand), or whether you naturally have a relaxed claw grip or aggressive claw grip. Of course, you can re-train your grip with practice.

Pros:

• Fast glide motion
• Excellent stability and precision

Cons:

• Speed compromises accuracy
• High finger arch can cause strain faster

As always, if in doubt, try a few different mice until you find the one that feels right for you – it’s not always the one that *should* fit you on paper that is the perfect match (a bit like relationships…).

The famous quote “a man is only as good as his tools” is often followed by “a tool is only as good as the person using it”. And that rings true with gamers; even the best need that edge when it comes to competitive play, and those tools need to be in top condition.

TL;DR - What you'll learn by reading this

I cover everything you need to know about Mouse Skates aka Mouse Feet aka Mouse Glides — I'll refer to them as 'skates' from here on in to avoid confusion.

I'll give you an overview on what they are, what their purpose is, when you should replace yours, and how to go about replacing them on your mouse.

Sound good? Let's dive right in...

So, what exactly are Mouse Skates?

Mouse Skates are the small pads on the bottom of your mouse that keep it gliding smoothly across your mouse pad. The main purpose of them is to keep the mouse elevated from the pad. In doing this, it minimizes the friction generated, but also keeps the mouse close enough to the pad for the sensor to track properly.

All mice come as standard with mouse feet attached, usually made of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE); also known as Teflon. This material is used due to having a very low coefficient of friction.

Your mouse comes with basic skates that are 'fine' and ready to go out the box, however, players who game more frequently may get to a point where they start to feel their mouse is just not as smooth as it used to be. Or that the factory stock skates just aren't very smooth.

When should you replace your Mouse Skates?

Whilst the mouse feet should last for a good length of time, they will need replacing and it’ll depend on how frequent a gamer you are. Some notable situations that might mean you need to change your mouse feet are;

Noticeable Catching

When moving the mouse you can feel the bottom catching, or dragging across the mouse pad, causing extra friction.

Worn-down Material

If you have a look at the bottom of your mouse, the feet should be typically white. The signs that the material is wearing down is if you can see ‘black bleeding’ which is the black plastic showing through the mouse feet.

Peeling

The mouse feet are showing obvious signs of peeling away from the base of the mouse. This is caused by liquid (most times sweat) getting into the feet causing them to lose their adhesiveness.

Replacing your Mouse Skates

When you're looking to switch out your skates, you’ll need to choose replacements that fit your specific model of mouse due to each mouse having a different layout on its base where the skates are installed. The exception being brands who use the same mouse chassis for multiple models, but that will be mentioned on the skates product description.

Once you have your replacement mouse skates in hand, it's now time to remove your old ones from the base of the mouse. There are a few different methods to do this, but we’ll cover the main, most reliable method (in our opinion):

Method: Hairdryer & Spudger (removal tool)

This method involves using the hairdryer to heat up the glue underneath the mouse feet. Once the glue has been heated long enough, use a spudger (a flat plastic tool with a sharp end) or a knife to scrape underneath the feet to peel them off — be careful if using a knife!

Be careful when using the hairdryer too, as you want to avoid overheating the mouse, which can cause damage to your mouse (plastic melting or warping) and also cause injury to yourself, so proceed with caution.

You can use the spudger or knife on its own without using the hairdryer, especially if you're unsure of how long to heat the feet up by. This may leave traces of glue on the bottom of the mouse however, which will need to be removed before attaching the new mouse feet.

Installing your new skates

Once you have removed all the old skates from the base your mouse, give the surface a clean by using rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl). This will remove any excess adhesive that may still be present. Leave the mouse to dry, and then it's time to apply the new ones.

Almost all aftermarket mouse skates will be a simple case of peeling and sticking onto the mouse, ensuring the feet are applied evenly to prevent any air bubbles from appearing.

Job done.

Which mouse feet are the best?

There are several mouse skate brands out there, so it can be daunting to know which ones are the best. Like most things when it comes to gaming, it's about personal preference. Different brands and models have their own unique feel and can react differently depending on your mouse pad, sensitivity and play style.

Most skates offer less friction to the standard factory-fitted skates, which is a good thing, and allows quicker mouse movements and a smooth glide.

Conclusion

You may have never thought of replacing your mouse skates, or that high-quality replacements were even a thing, but just like any enthusiast gear there's always a way to step things up a notch.

Keeping the factory-fitted skates will do the basic job, but they tend to wear quicker than upgraded skates and for some people, they can feel sticky or scratchy on a range of mouse pads which isn't ideal.
